Stock sales at Alatawhero to-day. At the Police- Court yesterday morning, a first offending drunkard was lined 5s with costs 2s.

A meeting of tho Cook County Council is sot. doavii for 10.30 this morning for Air Lysnar’s scheme to borrow £200,000 for the County roads.

The Anglican Sunday School teachers will meet in a day or two to decide as to tho disposal of the surplus, some £3O, odd, from tho Christmas entertainment.

It has not yet been decided by tho library committee whether to ask the County and Borough Councils for a grant or not. The matter will be brought up at next meeting. At Alotu on February 19th, a picnic and social will be held. This should prove an enjoyable outing for Gisborne residents, as the Alotu district is at its best at tho present time.

Pollard’s Opera Company established a record for His Alajesty’s Theatre Auckland, during their season, just concluded. Bluebell in Fairyland ran for thirteen performances and would probably havo run for another week.

During the progress of the stock sales at Alatawhero on Thursday last, a man tied up a valuable sheep dog to a- fence. Ho heard it yelping for some time and’ upon investigation, lie found that near where he had placed the aiiimal, there was a. hive- of bees and the latter had attacked the dog, stinging its tongue. . Shortly afterwards tho dog died.

Speaking to a Times reporter, Air. Potcliell, the fruit-grower, ot Ormond, stated that lie could scarcely say if any good would be alone by interviewing the Alinister of Lands during bis visit to Gisborne. They wanted the Act to be stringently enforced and fruit-growing would pay better than anything in the Dominion. If the Act was properly enforced they would soon get rid of all d iseases.

Owing to both local clubs being badly off in regard to boats it is probublo that the regatta which it was proposed to hold alter the Nnpior regatta will ho postponed. A young pooplo’s demonstration will ho bold ’lit the Salvation Army Barracks to-night. An attractive programme of company songs, action -•longs, dialogues, and ’recitations has been arranged, and a pleasant evening is assured’ to those who -nttoml. The following crows have boon picked to roprosont tho Gisborne Club at the championship regatta in Napier, next month: —Juniors —Dustin, (!. A meeting of tlm Drivers’ Union was held last evening al Air. Darien’s office. Six new members wero elected. Tin- conditions for a new award wore discussed, and are now being drawn up lor submission to tho next sitting ol the Arbitration Court at Gisborne, which will he in May. A mooting was hold at Air. Clark’s residence, Ormond, Alangapapa, last evening in connection with church extension. Tho Rev. L.-Dawson Thomas presided over a representative attendance. A plan of campaign for the year was laid beforo tho mooting by tim chairman and it was fully discussed. Several of tho committoomon expressed surprise at the lack of interest on the part of Alangapapa residents, and it was decided to'carry on the work vigorously. Tho committee have procured a splendid section of land on tho Ormond road, and have paid a substantial deposit, and it is hoped that with tho assistanco of the residents the whole purchase money will bo paid off. Tho chairman pointed out to tho committee that the moment tho monoy was paid off, tho building could 1)0 financed. It was decided to call tho annual meeting of tho Alangapapa supporters next month when the committee s proposals will bo laid boioro tho meeting, of which due bo given. The AUcar desires it to bo understood that the services are bold in tho schoolroom every Sunday at 7 p.m. and that is for all residents, irrespective of denomination. All books will bo provided tor thoso attending.
