Iho settlors were compelled to work a.l night in protecting their homes. A light fall of rain after midnight, and tho wind changing, relieved the situation, though the fires arc sti.l burning.

T Moon, who was taken to the Hospital on Wednesday, suffering from the effects of seven burns, received whilst attempting, with many others, to subdue tho grass _ tires on the Caslnnero Hills, died this morning at 1.30 at tho Hospital.
