At tlirco o’clock yesterday afternoon a party of Gisborne residents left for AVniyoa by motor-car. Tlio party consisted of Messrs AV. Lissant Clayton. Air. Julius Caesar, and Air. A. B. Carmichael, in Air. Clayton’s ear, and Alessrs Norman AJair and A. F. Kennedy, in Air. J. AI. Gouldsmitli’s car. They proceeded yesterday as far as Air. Carmichael’s station at AVaerenga-o-kuri, where the night was spent, and to-day they continue their journey. The roads are reported to be good, anil it is expected that tlie trip will be a Peasant one Tlio party, who intend to bo present at tlie AVairoa show and races, expect to be away for about ten days
On Saturday afternoon the O’sborne Rifles proceeded to AVainm tor the purpose of holding a week-end instruction camp. On the march out operations similar to those occurring on a service march were carried out. On arrival ,it the camping ground the corps were put through operations, necessary to. dislodge a supposed enemy who had landed and entrenched themselves. In the evening the operations of the day were rc 7 viewed by Captain Hislop, Adjutant of the ’Battalion, who, with Stan Sergeant-Major AAillMins, was pressent throughout the cnini. On Sunday the corps was exercised in defensive operations, taking the position of entrenched invaders. There was a fair muster, and' altogether a very pleasant and instructive time was spent.
