AN AAIICABLE SETTLEMENT. United Press Association—Copyright (Received Jan. 21, 11.45 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 21. Representatives of Alessrs Burns, Philip and Co., after conferring with Herr Dernberg, tho German AKinister for the Colonies, have accepted £4IOO as an honorable and amicable settlement in tho Marshall Islands dispute, preferring a ca-sh settlement to encouraging the delays and risks of arbitration.
(Received Jan. 22, 1.2 a.m.) SYDNEY, Jan. 21. .With reference to the cable, the' Alarslia-ll Islands settlement was largely due to tho good offices of Doctor Jrniir, German Consul-General at Sydney. It was through ii.is representations eliioliy that Germany invited Alessrs Alessrs Burns, Phi]']) and Co. to send a representative to Berlin to confer. After gaining the consent of the British and Commonwealth Governments, Alessrs Burns, Philp and Co. instructed Air. Campbell, their .London manager, to proceed thither, and offer a settlement for half tho amount originally claimed. Finally the settlement was agreed to by both sides for £4.100, roughly one-third of tho amount of tho claim.
