MATAAVHERO STOCK SALES,
The following is tlie New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd., report on the stock sale, held at Matawliero yards on Thursday 23rd January. 190S:— Tho weather continues extremely dry, and this affected both entries and attendance, the sales not comparing with last week’s in volume. Tho action of tho Stock Department in causing rigid examination of sheep in yards at this season of the year, when water for dipping is practically unobtainable, and when feed is so short .as to render unloading imperative, is hampering sales and causing much adverse criticism.. SHEEP. AVe yarded 1,772 sheep, but slack demand resulted in sale of 712, at following prices. Fat light weigths 10s, 4 and 6-tooth ewes 13s 3d, aged ewes Bs, shorn lambs, average lime 7s 3d, cull lambs 4s 2d, 2 and 4-tooth wethers, good line, 13s Bd. CATTLE. A farly good demand for steers of all ages was manifest. Dairy stock and ail lines of female stock wore dull of sale. AVe yarded 221 and sold 200 as following .rates:—Steers 15 to 18 months' £2 17s to £2 19s, 2-year olds £3 11s to £4 10s, 21-year olds £4 11s to £4 15s, forward steers £5 17s. yearling heifers £2, 2-year olds £3 2s 6d, dairy cows oil account of Mr. 11. Hepburn £5 to £7. PIGS. Dull of sale:—Slips 16s to 18s, sows 21s. AVo should ho glad of notification of entries for sale of 30tb January as early as possible.
