One of the prettiest pieces of bush remaining at Matahiwi, in the vicinity of Masterton, was destroyed by fire on Saturday and Sunday, The residence of Henry Holmes at Matahiwi narrowly escaped destruction. A gang of men, including members of the fire brigade, 'kept the fire back. The wind changed, or otherwise tlio fire would have swepit the Upipicr Plain block.
