BUSH FIRES.

SAWMILL AND BRIDGES DESTROYED. Press Association. DANNEVIRKE, Feb. 5. During the last few days the bush fires have subsided somewhat, but this afternoon the fresh wind fanned up tho fires in the Piripiri district, near Dannevirke. Considerable damage* was done on the tramway to Holt’s sawmill, and five big bridges were destroyed and 100 chains of tramline. At Anderson, Son, and Co.’6 mill, tho workman’s hut was destroyed and tho stables burnt, but the horses and contents were saved. Tho mill was partially dismantled, but tliero is no water, and it is in grave danger. The country between hero and Waipawa is terribly dry, and there will be serious consequences unless rain comes soon.

Farmers are suffering greatly through loss of stock by fire, and through forced sales to prevent starvation.
