A HUAIANE ACT AND A LIGHT SENTENCE. Press Association. NEAV PLYAIOUTH, Feb. 0. - In the Alagistrate’s Court to-day, Joseph Thompson, charged with escaping from New Plymouth gaol, pleaded guilty. The Alagistrate said that under ordinary circumstances, as Thompson had broken gaol on a former occasion, lie would inflict- a heavy penalty, but on account of the pecul’ ir circumstances would only sentence b in to the loss of three months’ m.irks. ’ _ AVhilst fleeing from pursuit Thompson found a Alaori lying wounded' from a fall from his horse, and he took the risk of going to a store and gi.-iug information. The Alaori died and at the inquest the. jury recommended the action of Thompson.
