CORRESPONDENCE.

[Correspondence on public matter* is welcomed at all times, but it must be distinctly understood that this journal is in no way associated witn the opinions of its correspondents.] THE GENERAL ELECTIONS. (To the Editor.) Sir,—lt is, perhaps, not too soon to bo considering the possibilities of the next General Election, due m November or December next. Ihc only candidate yet definitely announced is appropriately associated with the new militant Socialism which is nothing, if not aggressive, and indined of late to be “more so.* Ho.w about ;a- Government candidate r There is always an affected doubt about the possibility of our honorable member being able to spare tho time. Will ho again assume lie role of the Weary—oh, so weary Titon. And will he permit himself to be persuaded to continue to earn tho rewards of a grateful country? But how shall he stand (or fall). If the Government is not itself Socialistic, what is it? Is it not responsible for all the Socialistic legislation that lias made this country tho terrible example it is in the eyes of all sane communities? Will it dare to cast loose from the labor unions that have fed and clothed it, and veritably given it what character it has? It can scarcely expect support from the harased and harried employers and investors whose industry and enterprise lias given it the opportunity of further exploiting them, and no small blame to them for that same supineness. The Opposition must have a. candidate, and it ought not to have more than one. It is to be hoped that a strong opponent will be found to face the redoubtable procrastinator. I am, etc., “AGIN THE GOVERNMENT.”
