TROUBLE IN INDIA.
SUCCESSFUL MILITARY OPERATIONS. United Press Association —Copyright (Received Feb. 17, 9.30 p.m.) CALCUTTA, Feb. 17. Major-General W illcocks, with the second brigade, reached Walai, the Zakkas’ chief village, on Saturday morning, surprising the tribesmen, who did not expect the troops until Sunday. He thus prevented them from garrisoning the strongest position, on the hill above Valai, which the Seaforth Highlanders seized without loss. Snipers 'killed one Highlander and wounded a gunner during the march through the mountain passes. The first- brigade, under General Anderson, captured the Charn fort and village on Saturday night. Pressmen are now permitted to join the expedition. Major-General Wilcocks’ operations practically closed the eastern part of the Bazar Valley, cutting off the Zakkas’ communication with the adjacent tribes. The simultaneous movement- by the two brigades disconcerted the Zakkas, the effect being increased if the Landi Ivotal column joins hands from the north.
