Press Association. AUCKLAND, Feb. 29. In tlie course of an address on tho native ministry, at the meeting of tho Te Ante Association, Air. Thornton made an impassioned appeal to all Maoris to make an effort to support their own ministers. A possible reason for the present lack of men, be said, was that the ministry was underpaid. No Alaori minister, if married, should -receive less than £IOO a year. He knew the Alaori was generous, especially towards something lie could not see, as a building, but it was much more necessary to have ministers than churches. Other speakers strongly supported Air. Thornton, and the following resolution was carried: “That this conference supports Hie president’s address on the importance of an efficient Maori clergy, and urges that efforts bo made to ra : se salaries. 3 * V.-
