AIATTERS VERY UNSETTLED
United Press Association—Copyright SYDNEY, Alarch 19. Strike matters are still very unsettled. The Ship Painters and Dockers’ Union have decided not to woi’k oil an.v of tho steamers of the three coastal companies. The A rasters and Engineers’ Assocation also decided not to handle any cargo for tile companies while the dispute lasts. The Wharf Laborers’ Union discussed the stevedores’ proposals for dealing with cargo, and agreed to tho transhipment of cargo lying at the deep sea wharves, but not including cargo which left the coastal boats after 12 oil Sunday niglit, which will be handled without- reference to where it came from. Air. Hughes states the Wharf Laborers’ Union discussed Air. Wade’s arbitration proposals, and decided to support tlio executive in refusing to offer a snecial sitting of the Arbitration Court to hear an application by the registrar for directions in regard to tlio strike. Tho application set out the facts which led up to the trouble'. The president pointed out that the AVliarf Laborers’ Union was not an industrial union. The Court could not compel it to file-a claim if it refused to do so. He directed the union to file a claim within seven days. Air. Hughes declares that- an attempt is being made to thrust arbitration upon the union, and make the union give its case away. -Come what may, he was determined to see the thing through rather than do that. If the attempt was persisted in, there would bo serious, troublo in a few days.
