PERSONAL.
The dealli occurred at 4.30 o’clock yesterday morning of Mr. W. G Scot ter, who has been a resident of Gisborne for 30 years. On Wed nee day Mr. Scotter was operated on for appendicitis, but the operation, ai though successful, was too late, as peritonitis had already set in, and mortification followed the operation. Mr Scotter was born in Norfolk in 1846, and came to New South Wales in 1855 in the ship Fullerton, crossing in the next year to Auckland where ho learnt his trade as blacksmith. JJe arrived in' Gisborne in 1878. At ope time he was a - member of the firm of Humphreys and Scotter, but of Into years he had carried on business on his own account. Mr Scotter saw active service in tlio Waikato war, and received the New Zealand war medal. For many years he wa's a member of the Wesleyan Church, but latterly he attended St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. The deceased leaves a wife, two daughters, and two sons (one of whom, the Rev. A. Scotter) is a. Wesleyan clergyman stationed in the Auckland district. Mrs. Scotter arrived back form a trip to Auckland on Wednesday, and the Rev. A. Scotter is expected on Saturday morning.
