THE PEICE OF MEAT.

(To tho Editor.) Sir. —On behalf of myself and other householders of Gisborne I make a protest against wliat appears to savor of Tammany on tho part of our autocratic “Knights of the Cleaver”. For years they -have given indiscriminate credit, and to those who paid in a month or so 5 per cent discount was allowed -when they paid their accounts. But now the whole aspect is changed. Wo are made to pay aveekly, and when asking for threepence discount on a 12s 3d weekly -account, ■are promptly refused -as it is against tlie rules of tho Association to allow any discount. I have witnessed fat cows stilling in the Matawliero yards by auction for 13s per cwt. and at tho prices the butchers are charging they get £2 per cwt. besides say 20s for" the hide. I leave it to tho public to say -liow much longer they will allow this state of affairs to exist. Two or three hundred per cent profit and cash at that ! I suggest a cooperative business sboitkl be started, and if so would be pleased to take a number of shares, as I consider it is absolute nonsense to think we are going to allow them all their own way. —1 am, etc.. lAJf sjjjpsoN.
