Eiddilord ela.imcnl £2OOO from the Minister of Railways in respect of a piece- of land taken from the frontage of his property at Longburn, in connection with the Eoxtou-Now Plymouth railway, was heard before the Supreme Court yesterday, before Mr Justice Cooper. An amount of ov.idence was given, and an •arrangement was arrived at whereby the claimant should receive £'3oo in full satisfaction of his claim, and also two level crossings giving access to his property, each party to pay their own costs and 15 guineas to each of the assessors. EEILDING. An important sale of suburban sections for residental sites, the situation being just outside the borough boundary, was held last night. The annual meeting of shareholders •in Messrs Kempthorno, Prosser, and Co’s New Zealand Drug Company was held to-day. The chairman, Mr Bathgate, in moving tho adoption of tho report and balance sheet, said the reserve on the costumers’ account was £'2992, and the fire insurance reserve was £605, an increase of £303 on last year. The chairman explained that lie thought the fire cover was fairly satisfactory and every opportunity was taken to increase it, the source of safety from serious disaster lay in tho fact that the cover extended over eight different risks. In the lour centres the staff fund ammounted to £3329, open accounts and liabilities to £79,352, and bills payable to £11,223. Stock was valued at £175,456, land, buildings, plant, and machinery at £102,737 as against £99,559 last year. Book debts owing wore £56,566, as against £59,955 last year; lulls receivable in hand £906, and cash in bank £3246. The chairman said tho business through the year had been satisfactory, and ho thought tho Company could loo'k forward to -the coming year with confidence. The motion was carried. Messrs Georgo Seivwriglit and Jo. i Mills were re-elected directors, and Messrs AV. R, Holmes (Auckland), C. P. Pawles (AVellington), G. AV. Hulrno (Christchurch), and William Brown and Co. (Dunedin) auditors. At Milton, John McNeill, a farmer at Circle Hill, was fined £lO and costs on a charge of having in his possession the carcase of a- sheep, not having lawfully come by the same, and on a charge of being in possession of a sheepskin from which the cars had been removed, he was convicted and ordered to nay costs. INVERCARGILL. Adam Middlemen, a- lad, was remanded yesterday on a charge of having placed on the Kingston line, at Garston, a quantity of material sufficient to have, derailed the train. George Holmes, alias Albert Patrick Newman, pleaded guilty -to having forged the name of AV. Stcuart to an •authority for J. H. Kirk and Co. to pay Georgo Holmes £ls, and having littered the same to John Brooks. Accused was remanded for sentence to the Supremo Court.
