Tli athletes who so worthily represented this Dominion at tho important sports gatherings in Tasmania and Australia" recently, worn tendered a formal welcome home this afternoon by the Wellington centre of tho New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association. Congratulatory speeches were delivered by the lion. T. W. llislop, Mayor of Wellington, who presided, and by the Hon. Goo. Fowlds, and Mores T. M. Will'ord, C. H. Izard, no 1 F. !!. Fisher, M.sP. Mr. Will'ord promised to do his best 1,0 obtain a grant for the purpose, and Mr. Fisher said he would not pledge, himself to ask tlio Government for money for sport, but he thought the necessary money could anil should bo obtained privately.
