A meeting of the Technical School Committee was held on Friday night, there being present: Messrs J. Somervell (chairman), C. A. do LuutouivJ. Coleman, R. Johnston, A. There wero nine pupils in the shorthand class, under Miss Wilcox ; two offered for tho vocal musical class, but none for the art classes. The secretary is to try and make arrangements for the art class, and also for the vocal music class. It was reported that the plumbing class had been started, Air Bay taking the practical .instruction and Air Leslie the 'theoretical. There were 14 attending the former and ten the latter. Letters were ■> read from the headmasters of the Alatawhero, Alakauri, and \Vaeven.ga-a-hika schools, stating that the parents 'were Very nleased with tho work done by pupils attending tho dressmaking classes,last year.

Shortly after 8 o’clock on-'Saturday night «. rather serious disturbance took place at the corner of Gladstone Road and Lowe Street, In accordance with tlieir usual. custom, the Salvation Army people were holding an open-air service in front of Air. AV. Aider's shop, when a man named Joseph Geddes, who was on horseback, pushed iiis way through into the ring, brandishing a short heavy stick, which was loaded with lead at one end. One of the onlookers, Air. Joseph Spence, fearing that some injury would he done .to the women or children who were present, stepped into the ring with the intention of seizing the horse’s bridle, when Geddes, ..who was apparently under the influence of liquor, struck him a heavy blow on the head with the stick, .inflicting- a nasty wound and rendering him unconscious. The injured; nian was carried into Mr. Mann’s chemist’s shop, and was- attended by Dr. J. G. Collins, who pronounced him to he suffering from a contused wound and a slight concussion of the brain. After the wound luuj been dressed, Air, Spencer was removpd in a cab to bis residence in Stanley Road. Inquiries last night elicited the information that lie was doing as well as can he expected, hut it will j lie fully a week before he will he able to he about again. Constable Scott was promptly on the scene, and arrested Geddes, who., will- appear at the -TV»li<?(i Court- this morning, charged witb heing drunk while in charge of a lvorse, and also with committing an assault with intent to cause actual bodily- harm.
