ARRANGEMENTS MADE FOR
CUTTING-UP
MAORIS ADVERSE TO SELLING
(Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, April,s.
Tho Hon. James Carroll, Native Minister, will probably remain in Auckland' for two or three days. As it is probable that he may yet visit tiie north of Auckland before ho returns to Wellington, tho Native Minister has been asked to attend a meeting of Maoris in the north for tho purpose of discussing tho land question, ami is wishful to do so provided suitable dates can be arranged. As regards the Waliaroa native meeting, the chief Taiugakawa informed the Native Minister that they had practically arranged about all their blocks of land and the manlier in which they are to be cut up. and he promised to submit all the information required by Mr. Carroll in due course, the Minister promising to supply any plans than were wanted. Taiugakawa made it clear that his people were averse to selling their land as they had not too much, but what they did not require they wero willing to lease. They wished the land to help them improve their estates and better themselves. Air. Carroll spent Saturday attending to departmental matters.
