AIATAWHERO STOCK' SALES. There lvas a largo yarding, but a slack market at Matawhero yesterday. About 1400 sheep and 600 head of cattle were penned, the supply being greatly in excess of the demand. Prices all round showed a considerable decline on recent- sales, and as farmers refused to “give” their stock away, a largo number of pens were passed in. There was practically no market for fat stock, and few pens were disposed of. Eat steers, sold from £5 15s to £6 17s 6d, equal to about 2.1 s per lOOlbs.; fat cows sold to £4 15s and a dairy cow at £O. SIJEEP. The yarding of store sheep consisted chiefly of ewes, which were slow of sale, pen after pen being passed. Wethers met with fair demand, but prices were far behind last week’s rates. Fat ewes sold from 10s to 11s, and fat wethers from 11s 9d to 14s 6d, only a small pen touching the higher price. Store ewes brought from 2s to 12s; the average price being about 9s. A line of 1067 big ewes in forward condition were passed in without a- bid, the small pens only finding purchases. Store wethers realised from 7s to 11s, but the quality was poor. Lambs sold at 6s 9d. CATTLE. The quality of the cattle yarded was above the average, but buyers were scarce. Fat steers sold: 16 at £5 15s; 16 at £5 7s; 12 at £5 7s 6d, while poorer sorts brought from £3 12s Gd to £4 12s 6d. Three cows .brought £3 15s, one cow £3 17s 6d, ’and a dairy heifer near milking £6. Calves from £1 to £1 ss. A pen of six pigs (weaners), brought 9s Gel, and two horses were passed in without a bid.
