CORRESPONDENCE.
[Correspondence on publio matters is wolcomod at all tiinos, but it must bo distinctly understood that this journal is in no way associated with tho opinion* of its oorreapondonti.J THE MAYORALTY. [To the Editou.l Sir, —Much has boon made by -Mr. TV. D. Lysnar’s opponents ' of' tho question of -a snotless and stainless character —and l'Vniicis'lStnfFprd now joins their ranks; I presume that, according to their dictum, any candidate for any public position should bear such a character as t-hoy deem necessary. Will Mr. Stafford, therefore, tell ns .why, at u meeting of Hospital subscribers, hold somo timo hack —nvhon public fooling on Hospital matters ran high—lie proposed Mr. Lysnar as a fitting candidate for tho position of Hospital trustee. Further, do thoso whoso prominently oppose Air. Lysnar honestly think that their characters —of. which they appear to bo so supremely proud—will stand a. searching investigation? I just want to add tlinit I am very much disappointed dn .Air. Sheridan’s replv to Air. Lysnar ro tho Roebuck Bridge question. IAIr. Sheridan was full of bounce a-n'd bluster at Mr. Lysnnr’s meeting, but bo cortainly has had to “climb down”—not .that I disagree with him for having had to do -so —but tho manner in which ho did it was anything buf straightforward.—l am, etc., C. SAfITH. [To the Editor 0 Sir, —I was not presont at Air. Lysnar’e mooting, but I understand that lio alloged that all lotters in your paper in opposition to his candidature had first boon perused by Dr. Williams; This is, of courso, one of Air. Lyenar’s usual fabrications, and I can only emphatically deny tho statement ns fur as my own lotters are concerned. I am usually responsible for my own actions.—l am, etc., AY. LISSANT CLAYTON. [To THE EdITOH.] Sir,--In reply to tho statement made by Air. Ly6nar, Dr. Williams wishes mo to state that none of the letters written by members of his committeo wero read by him before publication, with tho exception of the one signed “J. Sheridan,” published in last night’s “Herald,” and that therefore Air. Lysnar’s assertion to the contrary is an absolute untruth.—l am, etc.,
E. H. MANN, Secretary of Dr Williams’ Committee,
