SOUTH AFRICAN PROTEST
REDUCTION IN NAVAL EXPENDITURE. CONSIDERATION PROMISED. United Press Association—Copyright. (Received April 29, 11.50 p.m.) CAPETOWN, April 29. A-u influential deputation, including many .members of Parliament, waited on the Colonial Secretary atCapetown to .protest against the proposed disbandment of tho naval volunteers. Sir J. G. Sprigg, the Hon. T\ . P. Schreiner, and tho H-on. T. IVSmartt suggested that tho Admiralty should consent to defray the cost from the colony’s contribution to the Royal Navy. Mr. Dewall disclaimed .any intention to weaken the tie with the Motherland, .and promised to consider the suggestion, but the Ministry was bound to reduce tho expenditure by £1,000,000.
