At the Dundee election Mr. "Winston Churchill was successful by a big majority. • The voting was as follows: Mr. "Winston S. "Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill first entered Parliament in 1900, when ho represented Oldham ns a Conservative. Later he became a Liberal, ' and in 1906, at the general, election, ho won the Manchester (N.W.) seat by a substantial majority. In that year ho was appointed Undjr-Secrotary o*f State for the Colonies, which office ho held until the Campbell-Bannerman Ministry, by tho death of its leader, lapsed. v On the Cabinet being reconstructed by Mr. Asquith, the new Prime Minister, Air. Churchill was appointed President of tho Board of Trade in succession to Mr. David Lloyd-George, who was also promoted. This necessitated a fresh election for his seat, but, on this ooccasion, his former opponent, Air. W. Joynson Hicfks, defeated him by 429 votes. Mr. Churchill was thereupon asked to stand for the Dundee seat, a Liberal stronghold, as is proved by Air. Churchill’s majority.
