The following amusing skit upon tho latest idea of tho Savings Bank Department is takon from tho “Dominion” : “John,” said wifey, “I want some money.” “I'haven't any,” said John, “but I’ll draw somo out of the money-box. It lias 3s Cd in it.” And he set off for the office of the Under-Secretary for Small Change to obtain tho box. After ’an hour’s, waiting amongst a crowd of anxious-looking men, ho was ushered in to the official. “The lcoy of Money-box N2I9GSQ ?” Said tlio secretary. “I’m afraid you can’t have it. Have yon filled in the form M.B. 16? Well, you must, and the matter will then bo passed on to the Minister. Got that form and call Again.” Jrijm an hour later, but the 'Under-Secretary'had”left for Whangnroi. John went homo to cheer up his wife. “Bo brave, my dear; wo shall havo that box before many days,” ho said. After a week of waiting, lie saw the Under-Secretary again, and handed in the form M.B. 13. “Aro you on tho roll? asked the Secretary. “No,” said John, uneasily. “Ha! Then you must apply under section Regulation 6516 for a permit,” said tho official, “and come back in «. week.” ‘
John went homo once more. “Wo’ro getting nearer, dear,” lie said. Tho permit, only took a fortnight to obtain, and ho saw tho Under-Secretary a week later. “Yes, that’s in order,” said the Secretary. “Sign this form, and the Registrar will forward you the paper to take to tho Minister. Good-morn-ing.” “Look here,” said John, “lend me 3s 6d., and you can keep tho box.”But the Secretary only smiled. Waiting till midnight, when he could creep home unseen by the butcher and the baker, who were sitting on the doorstep, John entered by tlio scullery window. “Courage,” ho wispered to his wife. “Ono more obstaclo is overcome.”
“You havo applied under tlio wrong Act, Mr. Jones,” said the Minister a week later. It was a desperate looking John now. Ho grew white. “Gimme my box!” ho yelled. Tho Minister reached for a revolver, but John was handy with the poker, and tho Minister broke tho fender as ho fell. John seized tho box. “Triumphed at last I” lie cried, and smoto tho box a terrific blow, liis brain on fire with the prospect of seeing the 3s 6d once more. The box was empty.
