Mr Webber, headmaster of the To Arai school, who has been suffering from a swelling in the leg for some time, lias been granted two months’ leave of absence by the Hawke’s Bay Education Board to undergo an operation. A relieving teacher has been appointed to the school in the meantime.

Air. D. Cowan left by the s.s. Aloana last night for Wellington to attend a Rugby Union Conference. Air. A. L. D. Fraser, AI.P., arrived from Napier by the s.s. Waikare yesterday on a brief visit to Gisborne. Air .F. Hewitt- Bulleu, bailiff of the Alagistrate’s Court for the past seventeen years, yesterday received notice of bis retirement from the Civil Service, presumably on account of his having reached the age limit. Air Bullen was for many years prior to his appointnient as bailiff sergeant of police at Gisborne. •
