The Mayor (Mr W. D. Lysnar) has received a telegram from the Hoh. James Carroll stating that the Minister for Railways (Mr \V. lla 11-J ones) had informed him that instructions have been given to the Engineer in Charge of Hie railways works to have tho section of the line from To Karaka to Willow Crossing ready for the opening ceremony, which will take place on Empire Day, Monday May 25th. It is also probable that •Mr Carroll will be in Gisborne for the occasion.

The Mayor telegraphed .Mr Carroll thanking him for the information and extended a cordial invitation to the Prime Minister (Sir Joseph Ward), tlie Minister for Railways, (the .Hon. W. Hall-. Jones), Mr Carroll. and any other Ministers that can spare time to be present at the function.

It. is expected that in accordance with the promise made during his recent visit to Gisborne, Sir Joseph Ward will attend, and Mr Hall-To-nes, and (Mr 'McGowan (Minister for Public Works), may also make the journey.
