DUNEDIN, Way 18. The Green Island coal mine trouble is now over. The men held a meeting to-night, when the check inspectors made their report on their visit to tho No. 1 and No. 2 mines of Messrs Christie Bros. They reported that in tho old workings above No 2 niino, where tho troublo has occurred, they found water to tho depth of lour feet, extending some 8S chains m length and 3 chains in width. In regard to No. 1 mino, tho inspectors reported that they found water m places " ” deep. They also inspected air. .Harris’ mine above No. 1, and lound Unit ;iu some abandoned workings there existed a streteli of water about live chains in length and 3} chains m width, and the shallowest part was olt deep. At tho hack end of this volume of water is Harris’ boundary, about —fj-iffc thick. Mr. Christie said lie bad about half » chain of boundary on his side, and m regard to this there was danger when men started to work through to tho pillars of wood and waters in abandoned workings, a.) breaking through.
