H- E. Maude acted os spokesman tor the deputation, and submitted plans ior the gates proposed, lie aid the British team would visit Gisborne, and the Union would like Hie approaches to the gates put in order u.v the Council, and the Union would pay the cost of erecting the gates, /'he. ground was a public ground, and lie thought .if the Union paid for tho gates the Council might bear tho cost or the approaches. He thought the ground could be levelled with a little soiland the playing ground improved. Tho Alayor asked the deputation if they would consent to have tho gate at tho western end of tlio ground opened after each match, and Air. Maude consented to see that- the gate was opened.
Mr. Maude suggested that a halfholiday should be declared on Saturday. July 4th. the day when the British football team is to plav in Gisborne.
said the date was too iar oit to be considered yet. It was deoided to make the approaches on the conditions mentioned hy the deputation, and to afford the union every facility to improve the ground.
