OCEAN LINER ABLAZE.
S.S. lONIC’S FLAX BURNING.
NOT REGARDED AT SERIOUS. EIRE BRIGADES AT W-ORK, Press Association. WELLINGTON, Alay 20. A fire has broken out in the cargo of the Shaw-Savill steamer .lonic, lying at the Railway wharf. She was to leave for London to-morrow. Tho fire on the s.s. lonic was discovered about noon. It appears to be in the flax stored in the fore-hold, and in rather a bad position, as there 'are cabins at the side and over it. Smoke is pouring out of the portholes and other apertures. The fire brigade has gone down with i strain engine, and the ship’s hose is playing on the fire, which promises to be a serious matter. The lire is being got under. Captain Carter does not regard the position at tho present time as very serious.
