A MEDITATED ESCAPE. FROM PRISON TO ASYLUM. (Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 21. The prisoner Frederick Hall, who was yesterday sentenced to imprisonment for life for attempted murder, tore up a blanket in his cell while awaiting trial ,and made from it. a rope which lie presumably intended to use in an attempt to escape. Tho attempt, however, was frustrated. it is uuderstood that the prisoner Philip While, who is at present sorvv ing a sentence, of eight years for %-«Lolditig up” iMr. White's jeweller s shop in Christcllurs.ll some two or three years ago, is to he sent to Sunnysido mental hospital as being mentally deficient. He mulcted a serious wound on liinisoli with a Undo last night, 'nit was reported to li.o progressing favorably, this morning.
