Long-felt wants have their own methods of expressing themselves, and becoming materialised for public use. Such is the case in regard to .a ’'-Directory of the Manufacturers of Australia,” « copy of which has just come to hand. It contains the names of all those who “make things” in the Commonwealth, and is published by Messrs Turner and Sons of Sydney and Melbourne, under the supervision of the Chamber of Manufactures in each of tile States. It is retailed at five shillings. In addition to containing a classified list of manufacturers the volume contains a lengthy, sirticlc upon the .oversea markets for Australian products and manufactures, as well as. . a .large amount of tabulated iiifonuataion, showing the number of factories in the Commonwealth, the average number of hands employed, the approximate value of laud occupied, and of buildings, plant and machinery. The Gisborne Times Company lias been appointed-local agent for tlic publication.
