WAIMATA SHEEP DOC TRIALS.

The second annual meeting of the AVainiata Sheep Dog Trial Club was held on Friday and Saturday. There was a large number of entries for all events, and a'good attendance of onlookers. The 'trials on Friday commenced with Class 1, head, bring back and hold in ring ;distance, about halfmile; time limit, 12 minutes. There were 41 entries. The first prize (£5 and a gold medal) was .awarded to Mr. AY;. Bonis’ Lloyd, scoring 28 points out of a possible 30; the second prize of £3 was awarded to .ur. Watson's Champe; with 26 points; the third prize, of £2, went to Mr. W. Bonis’ Scott, 25 points; and the fourth, £l, to Mr. W. Watson’s Mike and Mr. AY. Berry’s Bob, scoring 24 points each.

Special prizes in connction with this class were .awarded as follows r Mr. A. F. Kennedy’s prize for dog making tho quickest head and getting most marks for holding was won by Air. 4\ r . Bonis’ Lloyd (head 8 points and timo 2.28 minutes); Mr. \\ r . D. Bruce’s special, for tho dog holding best in the ring, was won by Mr. AV. AA’atson’s Champe, who got full points. Mr. A. H, Jackman’s prize,. fdK-.the dog working in tliemost natural gtyle, .was won by Mr. J. AA’atehorn.

On Saturday 'the proceedings commenced with judging Claes 2: Straight hunt-away to a flag, distance about quarter-mile, time limit 12 minutes. The first prize, £5 and a gold medal, was won by Mr. W. Bonis’ Scot, 25 points; the second .prize,, of £3, was won by Mr. M. B. Mender's Stump, 24 points; the third, of £2, by. Mr. A. H. Jackman’s Joe, 20 points; and the foijrtli, £l, by Mr. W. Bonis’ Billy, 18 points. The special prizes were. awarded as follows: Mr. A. S. Wachsmami’s prize, ; for noisest hunt-away scoring over 15 points, was won by Mr. J. Leggett’s Dick, 17 points; Mr. J. B. Kells’, for the most obedient dog, was- awarded to Mr. W.‘ Bonis’ Scott; Mr. - Tattersall’s prize, to the competitor who did the least and most reasonable amount of talking while working his dog, was won- by Mr, M, B. Mander. Mr, Thos. Adams’ prize, for the member who hud not' competed at any previous trial whatsoever who scored most points at the meeting was won by. Mr. W. Berry. Mr. J. C. Graham’s prize, for the best team of two dogs, each to score 15 points in the classes, was carried off by Mr. W. Bonis with Lloyd, 28 points, class 1, and Scott,, 25 points class 2. A silver challenge cup, donated by Mr. J. L. Perry, for the dog gaining the largest number of points at the trial, went to Mr. W. Bonis’ Scott, scoring 25 points in each class, a total of 50 points out of a possible of 60. With this cup a gold medal was presented by Messrs J. and W.' Bissett, which also went to the same winner. A consolation trial in the humtaway was held at the end of the day, and was won by Mr. J. C. Graham’s Tweed, 22 points. A largely-attended smoke concert was held in the Waimata. Hall on Saturday evening. In the absence, of the President (Mr. A. R. Watson), Mr. 0. H. Norris occupied the chair. The prizes were, distributed by the giver of the challenge cup (Mr. J. 1,. Perry) Mr. George Hawkins, of Huanui, acted as judge, and gave every satisfaction. Mr. A. R. Watson, Lnnburn. on the first day, and Mr. W. C. Morris on the second, acted as timekeepers. Mr. J. C. Graham 1 , oi Glenroy, on behalf of the members of the Club, presented the secretary, Mr. C. M. Trewby, with a handsome silver cigarette case in unanimous recognition’ <?fyHh.e v able and efficient manner iif'iflflen ho carried out the various arrangements, and to whom much of the success of the meeting was due. The secretary, in. returning thanks, stated that the financial affairs of the club were in a flourishing condition, showing a balance of £25.
