LONDON, May 24. Wool is very animated, and prices have been fully .maintained. Crossbreds are 20 .per cent, above opening rates, merinos fuly equal to April closing rates. The fleece portions of Waiau clip' averaged 7d, Waihuka 6 7-Bd, Tukituka 9d. There have been catalogued to date 107,073 bales and sold 93,195 bales. Sheep : Canterbury heavy 3§d, North ' Island 1 3 7-16, best 3f. Lambs: Canterbury light 54d. Beef: River Plate hinds-3§a, and the rest unchanged. Hemp is quiet. May to July shipments ’ £26 15s.
Hides are neglected, 5700 being offered .and .all withdrawn. Leather is a farthing easier. First Wellingtons 15Id; A basils have declined Id; first Wellingtons 26}d, 173 d. Press Association. WELLINGTON, May 25. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London,. May 23rd : “The. mutton market is quiet. There is a scarcity of prime quality mutton, especially Canterbury, with a limited demaud for the poorer grades., Canterbury brands are quoted at <id, and North Island at 3|d. The lamb ■market is steady, with a limited demand. Large shipments afe arriving from New Zealand. Canterbury lamb is quoted at 5Jd, and other than Canterbury at s|d. The beef market is dull, and prices are irregular, owing to the competition of good quality Argentine. New Zealand hindquarters are quoted at 3id, and forequarters at 3d. The butter market is quiet,, bqt a moderate business is doing. Choicest New Zealand butter is quoted at 110 s, Danish Ills, Australian 103 s, Siberian 100 s. The cheese market is steady, New Zealand white makes are quoted at 60s, and colored which is in large supply at 575, Canadian new season’s'make is quoted at 595. The hemp market is quiet, with small business doing. Following are current quotations: Good, fair grade, on spot, £25 15s; faiagrade, on spot, £24 10s;fair current Manila, on spot, £24 10s; May to ■July shipments, good, fair grade, £26. The cocksfoot market is steady at last quotations, The wool market is advancing steadily for medium and coarse crossbreds, all grades of which now show 5 per cent, premium over the closing rates of ! last sale, Merinos are firm.” - .
