SPORTS AND PASTIMES.

FOOTBALL. Tlio following have been clToson to roprosont West End against KaitiCity on Saturday next: Smith. Miller, Wi Hop a, Malloy, Brown- L'uroi, Kaipara, Graham, Pino, Paaka, Turoi, Newton, Hakiwai, Heko, Brooking, Olivo, and MeGuflio; emergencies, Gemini and Martin.

THE BRITISH TEAM,

(Special to “Times.”) WELLINGTON, May 26.

Tho British football spent a quiet day across tho harbor to-day. In tho •afternoon a number of Wellington residents went over to tako part in the reception to the visitors given by the President of tho Now Zealand Rugby Union and his wife. Tho weather for to-morrow’s match promises to ho very fine, but the ground will be heavy and the ball somewhat greasy after last night’s rain. Tho wliolo of the grandstand tickets aro sold at 5s oach, and a great many 'more collide have been disposed of at the samo price. A largo attendance is assured. It is probable that noither the captain (Harding) nor Vassal will bo able to play. The contest is expected, to be a very keen one. The Wellington back team is a particularly strong ono, but there nro many pcoplo who think tho visitors will win, oven though thoy aro not yet quite up to best form. It is possible that tho British forwards may be too strong for the local pack. They are really a heavy lot, a. good deal heavier, I lieliovo, than is generally supposed. Indeed, I should not be at all surprised if they are a heavier forward team than tho New Zealand Union sent Home. The result of to-morrow’s •match will be awaited with keen interest. Indications aro that thero will be a very largo attendance at tho football match, Britain v. Wellington, tomorrow. The night is fino and clear, giving promise of a fine day and a dry "round. Tho British team will not be solocted till the morning, as it is still uncertain whether tho captain (Harding), who had a leg injured at Masterton on Saturday, will be able to play. Ho is most anxious to do so, if possible.
