COMMERCIAL.
MATAWHERO SALES. With the yarding yesterday the last of the weekly stock sales for the winter at Matawhero came to a close, and for tho rest of the year the sales will be hold fortnightly. The prices obtainable yesterday were a point above those of tho previous week, but tlio improvement was probably caused by the small yarding, for only 6000 sheep and 100 head of cattle wore penned. SHEEP.
The yarding ‘'consisted chiefly of stores m forward condition, which sold under fair competition, while tlio fat pons niet with good demand. Fat wethers brought from 12s 5d to 13s 3d, 173 fat owes 13s 3d, 20 fat owes 12s 3d, 545 small wethers 9s 3d, 24 forward wethers 12s, 19 big wethers 10s 6d, 135 ewes 7s 6d, 80 forward ewes 9s 6d, 125 Lincoln ewes in lamb 9s 6d, 72 owes in lambCsdd, 21 lambs 3s, 136 hoggets 2s Bd, 92 wellgrown woolly hoggets 7s 6d.
CATTLE. Tho yarding of cattle consisted of about 100 head. Nine beef cows brought £4 2s 6d, 1 beef cow £4, and eight fat steers £4 10s. Store cows sold at from £2 12s 6d to £3 10s, a dairy cow £6, store steers from 17s 6d to £2 156, store heifers from £1 2s to £2. A nice hack sold for £lO. \

At the wool sales the Titirangi clip sold at 6|d. At tlio tallow sales prices were unchanged. The wool sales are animated. Light crossbreds brought the' highest rates of the series. Occasional lots of faulty crossbreds were slightly in buyers’ favor.
NAPIER, May 28. The Colonial Consignment and joistributing Company cable the following report on tlio frozen meat market: A further fall in the value of beef has occurred. Mutton : To-day’s quotations, Canterbury 4-Jd, Napier, Wellington," and North Island 3RI; lamb, first 5Jd, second 5Jd; beef, hinds 3Jd> fores 3Jd.
