AN INCORRECT MESSAGE.

PRESS AGENT AT FAULT.

Press Association. . WELLINGTON, May 28, On Wednesday the Press Association agent at Inglewood sent the following message throughout the Dominion :_“Sir Joseph Ward • through here about noon to-day. -Lne Mayor and deputations were waiting to Interview him, and it was understood he would stay here a bhort time, hut all assembled bad tbo inortification of seeing bun pass through the town at the rate of 20 miles liour The deputation then dasperseu with’ the cold satisfaction of seeing him raise liis_ hat. I!T1 -tateSir J G. Ward says: ine state ment is absolutely incorrect, and as coon as I saw it 1 telegraphed to the Mavor of Inglewood on the subject. I was not invited to Inglewood, and not informed that any deputation desired to see me, so I simply passed through to keep an engagement at New Plymouth. The. Mayor of Inglewood sent the following reply to my wire to him on the subject: ‘bpiry for statement in press, but not directly responsible, and now find 3’ou ic ceived no message re deputation. Will see you morning’s train and exnlain. —H. Curtis, Mayor. P Sir Joseph states that this explanation appeared in the New Plymouth papers, and he was surprised that itwas not sent throughout the Dominion, as the previous message had been. -
