THE BRITISH TEAM. (Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, June 12
Tho ono topic of conversation in all circles, not alono among those who follow tlio game regularly,.is.to-mor-row’s match between tho AngloWelsh Rugby team and Canterbury. Thoivscvci'e dofoat last “Saturday has by no moans disheartened tlio Britishers, and before the tour closes they will doubtless show that they are capable of better things. There is one feature of their play that has made them popular with the, public, anil that is their bright and attractive play when their backs get possession of the ball. Close lino work, which makes a game so tedious to watch, they dislike, and though at times they take risks that would seem too dangerous to a New Zealand team, their style of play makes for a fast game. The Canterbury team, too, is Very strong in the back division, with such men as Burns, Gray, Deans. j\£acDonald, Fryer, and Fuller, and if tlTo weather holds good the game ■mould proto a very fine one to watch. If the Canterbury forwards can hold the opposite pack.the backs should he able to make tilings merry for tho Britishers. Vassail’® injury will' keep him out of the team, while Jackett and Harding aro also standing down. The teuns arn:
Britishers: Full-back, J. C. Dyke; three-quarters, F. Chapman, P. T. McEvedy (capt.), Ponty Jones, J. L. Williams; halves, W. Morgan, J. Tuan .Jones; forwards, IT. Dibble, E. Morgan, T. Smith, P. Down, H. Archer, L. iS. Thomas, 'J. A. S. Rit.son, and R. A. Gibbs (wing). Canterbury : Fulhback, A. E. Doall ; three-quarters, F. C. Fryer, It. G. Deans, IV. B. Fuller; five-eighths, G. D. Gray, E. B. MacDonlad; half back, P. Burns; forwards, J. Mahoney, T. Bond, W. Menzies: J. Baker, B. Hopkins. E. Evans, T. Bain, and I). McPhail (w'iig). The Canterbury captain lias not boen chosen, But jt. may he taken for granted that Deans will lead tho team. Mr. F. Laws, of Wellington, will bo referee. The members of tho British team did not do any practice to-day, preferring to rest instead. This afternoon they were driven out to Kaiapoi to have a look over tlio woollen mills.
