Tho platform submitted to an enthusiastic meeting .of the National Republican Convention,Chicago, nicknamed “Roosevelt’s Canned -Convention,” urges siicli revision of the tariff as will give .the consumer the benefit of the most favorable prices consistent with the protection of home industries and labor, ' and declares that tho duty must equal the difference between the American and European cost of production, including a reasonable profit to the American producer. It also urges a'constant increase in battleships to protect American interests abroad, and in support of Monroeism One plank recommending legislation to ensure labor organisations against snap judgments by courts in the issue of injunctions is arousing considerable opposition. Many of Mr Taft’s supporters object thereto. Senator Burrows was cheered on pronouncing against divesting courts of their constitutional power.
