LAND FOR SETTLEMENT.
THE CULVERDEN ESTATE. LARGE NUMBER OF APPLICATIONS. [Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, June 18. Applications for sections on the Culverdeir estate will close to-morrow at I p.m., and it is evident that the total number of applications for the sections, whicli number twenty-five, will bo very large. Between 1100 and 400 names have already been received and to-day more are coming in rapidly, and probably nearly 600 persons will go to the ballot on Friday week. To-day a number of applicants were to 101 l lid around’ the Lands Office, and all seemed very keen on securing a foothold on the land through (state assistance. The applicants generally, state the authorities, are of a good class, and represents a good deal of capital. Many of them have had wide experience in agricultural and pastoral occupations, and should make good settlers.
