There was a large attendance of ladies, and the missionary gave a .most interesting account of’the evil influence of opium, the greit social-curse of China. Mr. Strong earnestly appealed t 0 those present to protest against tlie importation of opium into China, and asked for their prayers and assistance in the work of the mission. The Gisborne City Band will hold a grand sacred concert in His [Majesty’s Theatre on Sunday evening next, commencing at 8.30. An excellent programme has been prepared and the Band hvill no doubt do full justice to it. Mr. Isaac. Hopkins, Government Apiarist., intends making a .general inspection- of the .bee-fanning industry in Poverty -Bay, -and the secretary of the Poverty Bay Bee-farmers Association his received word from tho Government that Mr. Hopkins will arrive here towards the middle of next month.
