THE GISBORNE HOSPITAL.

DISCUSSED BY COUNTY COUNCIL NUAIBER OF PATIENTS. At yesterday’s meeting of the Cook County Council the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board applied for payment of £205 2s lOd due‘as County contribution to charitable aid to Alarcli 31st 1909. It was decided to forward the instalment- for the first quarter. Air. AV. D. Lysnar said the amount was greatly increased over last year, and lie thought monies should be collected. Every means'should be exhausted to make those who could offord to pay, give some compensation for treatment. The hospital expenses had increased, while the average was. now only about twenty inmates. The chairman said that the Board was collecting more now than in the past. Cr. Matthewson: Cr. Lysnar is going to pass a vote of censure on tho Hospital Trustees, and tell them what to do. He should get official information. The average is about thirty-seven. Cr. IV. D. Lysnar: I am surprised at the talk about a vote of censure. Why all this warmth? 1 think Cr. Ala-t----thews has something in his mind which lie wants to get out. I merely said there -was an average of about twenty patients,, and Cr. Matthews said it was about thirty-seven. There is no need for warmth. The matter is not one for irritation or indignation.' ’ . / * The Chairman: I think in the future the Board' will insist on the fees being paid. Later on Cr. AV. D. Lysnar said ho had ascertained that during the past year there was an average of 38 patients in the hospital. Cr. Matthews said the figures ho had obtained, showed ail average of 40 patients. The number had increased since Dr. AVilson had taken charge of the institution, whereas, before that time a large number went into private hospitals. He thought .the correct figures should go out to tho public. ;'
