In the presence of a gathering of 14,(XX) people the Chicago Republican Convention adopted with acclamation the Rooseveltite platform., including a modified form of the anti-injunction plank which upholds the authority of the Courts. Another demands the strengthening of the Sherman antitrust law, and a third recommends the revision of tho tariff by a special session of Congress immediately after the inauguration of the next President. The workers are described as the most direct beneficiaries under the protective system. The platform declares the United States owns onefourth of tho world’s wealth, and makes one-third of the modern manufactured products. When Mr. Taft was proposed foi the Presidency there was a demonstration second only to that accorded to Mr. Roosevelt. Tho voting was as follows: Hon. TV. H. Taft 702 Senator Knox 68 C. E. Tile Pennsylvanians, amidst cheering, cast three votes for Mr. Roosevelt. Mr. Taft’s nomination was more unanimous on a subsequent vote. [William Howard Taft will be 51 years of age next September. He was admitted to the Bar in 1880, and has subsequently been law 1 reporter, prosecuting attorney, judge, law-pro-fessor, a delegate to the Vatican, and Civil Governor of tho Philippines; visited Cuba to protect American interests, and assumed tho position of Provisional Governor; has also been U.S.A. Secretary of War since 1904; described as “the handy man of the Administration,” and has. long been spoken of as President Roosevelt’s probable successor. It is interesting, to note that his father was Secretary 1 of TVar and Attorney-General in President Grant’s Cabinet;]
