PERSONAL.
Mr. W. A. ,Barton, S.M., who Ims been absent on his periodical visit to the C-'oast-as far as Port A-wnnui, returned tp town on Thursday night, and presided over the sittings of the Court yesterday. A pleasant function took place at the Masonic Hotel yesterday afternoon, when ii thoroughly representative gathering of commercial men met to say farewell to Mr. David Hogg, who has represented Messrs floss and Glendinning in this town for some time past, and who is now -leaving the district. Mr. Wm. Pettic occupied the chair, and in an able speech expressed the’ general feeling of regret at Mr. Hogg’s departure and good wishes for his future success. The Chairman then presented Mr. Hogg with a handsome silver tea and coffee service on behalf of those present. Further congratulatory speeches were made by Messrs G. Iv. Pasley, It. Johnston. Ifwergon,, Cederwall, Hookey, and T. Adair. When Mr. Hogg had feelingly replied, Mr. C. H. Ambridge introduced Mr. Hogg’s successor to the district, Mr. wil-son, ami wished him a pleasant sojourn amongst them. The gathering concludedwith a hearty vote of thinks to the chairman.
