• [Press Association.] AUCKLAND, June 22. A man named John Eae died at the Avondale Mental Hospital yesterday after having completed the-record of 49 years and 5 mouths incarceration. He was admitted to the institution on February 22ud. 1859, and Ills register number was No. 15.

A strong deputation representing the Friendly Societies’ Conference waited on. the Hon. G. Fowlds to-day, urging;that a clause should bo inserted in tlio proposed Hospitals Bill to allow them to obtain hospital treatment at half and quarter fees as formerly. _ This concession was removed some time ago, and tlie 5000 members of tlio conference are keenly desirous of retaining what, they claim is a right and not a privilege. The Minister intimated that he bad little doubt that the point would bo conceded. HAMILTON. June 22. John Connelly, a train-examiner, had a leg run over during shunting operations. At the Supreme Court to-day .Edward Coyle and William Cameron alias Joseph Carr were charged with breaking and entering anil theft at Woodvilie. Coyle was found not guilty and discharged. Airs Newall, wife of Colonel Newall. died to-night. She was a sister of Colonel Roberts, formerly Stipendiary Magistrate at Tauranga. The deceased lady married Colonel Newall in 1872.

Hood, a young man who sustained severe injuries to liis bead through coming into contact with machinery attached to a pump on the ctearner Kaitangnta at Port Chalmers last Friday, died in the hospital today.
