THE POTATO MARKET.
FIRM AND STEADY. [Press Association.] WELLINGTON. June 22. In regard to a report in a southern paper concerning the peculiar condition of tho potato market at present, and particularly in reference to the statement that “a panic seems to prevail in the North island where heavy orders for forward delivery up to September have takon place at £5 10s f.0.b.,” a “Post” reporter made inquiries of several leading produce dealers in Wellington, which elicited the information that so -far as Wellington was concerned there was no truth in tho statement and, so far as is known, there hail been “no shuffling.” The -market, though inclined to did ness, was holding very steadily, and tho present price, £5 to £5 10s, according to quality, was considered very satisfactory by all concerned, from the grower to the consumer. So far js could 'be- judged values wero not expected to go much beyond these figures this season. Only this morning a quotation from the south listed prime Dorwents at £4 10s f.o.b.
