Karamea, s.s. in the bay. The U.S.S. Co.’s Squall arrived from Auckland yesterday afternoon with general cargo, including transhipments ex 6.6. Cornwall. Slip sailed again at night for Whangarei with a cargo of 500 sheep. 1 The schooner Awanui and the scow Seagull both got away yesterday morning, the former fot Tologa Bay and Auckland and the latter for YVhiti inga. The I.S.S. Co.’s Haupiri arrives from Napier tomorrow morning, and will continue her voyage to Coast ports and Auckland. Messrs .Richardson and Co.’s steamers Fanny and Ruru .both arrive from Napier this morning, and return in the evening. Loading operations on the s.s. Star of Ne-.v Zeal ind and jc.s. Karamea in the Bay were being carried on yestordav. Jt is expected to despatch both vessels to-day. The .New Zealand Shipping Company’s iR.M.S. Tongariro arrived at Plymouth on Saturday morning from New Zealand. The U.S.iS. Co.’s Mokoia arrives from Auckland to-inonO\v afternoon and sails South in the evening. The v. S.'S. Co.’s Waikare arrive-, from South to-morrow morning, and continues her trip to Auckland later in the forenoon. The loss of the Tyser liner Star of Japan, while hound with a valuable cargo from Kind on to Australia and New Zetland, i 3 reported to have h.-en a heavy blow to the London market, for practically the whole value of the hull and cargo was covered there. The exact value of the cargo cannot yet be ascertained, but it is hardly likely to fall short of £150,000, nnd. aviill interest on hult niacliinerv, and disbursements, the 'toil cost ‘is likely to .be over rather than under a quarter of a million of money. The steamer was the best boat of the Star Jinp built within the last two years, and probably got out of her course through the current which sets in to the coagt. As she struck at 4 a.m., there was no opportunity of seeing the rocks which lie off Cialha Point, •and winch .in the ordinary course would be passed at a distance of not less than twenty miles.
