CARGO BROACHING.
A SERIOUS OFFENCE. THREE FIREMEN FINED. [PiiEss Association.] WELLINGTON, June 24. Three firemen named Robert Johnston, Charles Johns, and Arthur. Addison, belonging to the s.r. Waikare, came before Mr. Riddell. R.M., for sentence. .They had been found stealing a quantity'of beer, valued at ss, belonging to the Union Company. Chief-Detective McGrath stated that the Finger-print Department could mot find any record against the men. His Worship observed that the offence really amounted to cargo-broaching. These offences -were becoming more frequent, and owing to the difficulty in detecting them were Joo'ked upon ae. being of a serious nature. If cargo-broaching increased it would be necessary for the Legislature to take some steps towards instituting the right of search, both on wharves aijd ion vessels. Each defendant would pe fined £5, in default 21 days’ imprisonment. : l' r '
