A CO-OPERATIVE BAKERY.
TO BE FORMED IN GISBORNE.
Intending shareholders in the new co-operative bakery, now in course of formation, are notified that share lists are lying at the .offices of Messrs C. G. Piesse (accountant) and Hy: Lewis (agent), where all information can be obtained. The movement, which primarily originated amongst the local members of tlie Civil Service, is being taken- up with great enthusiasm, the object being to obtain bread at the minimum cost by means of co-operation. The new* bakery will be in no way connected with the Co-operative Store at present existing in Gisborne, .and. although the idea originated amongst the Civil servants, the share lists are open to. the general public. Up to the present about 340 £1 shares have been- taken up, and the lists contain the names of many of the oldest and most prominent ciHzens of the town. A large number of the industrial classes are also enrolled, and to these especially tlio establishment of a co-operative bakery in- Gisborne is expected to prove a great boon. As illustrative of the interest taken in the co-operative movement generally, it is stated that one gentleman offered to take up ia. hundred shares and give a chequo for them on tho spot if a co-operarive butchery was added .to tho proposed bakery. Arrangements aro well in hand in connection with tlio movement, and it is anticipated that they wall fie completed and' Hie Association will bo registered by fihe end of this week.
