SOME SUGGESTIONS MADE

[Pbess Association.] * WELLINGrTON, July 11. A deputation of AVellington chemists waited upon Dr. Mason, Chief Health Officer for New Zealand, and had a long conversation with him this morning regarding cMorodyne, and the evils which result from the indiscriminate sale of this medicine. It was iutimated to Dr. “Mason that the deputation, which represented practically the whole- of the chemists of AA T ellington, was moved by the utterance of -Messrs AA'ilford and Field, M-IVs. concerning the unrestrieted and indiscriminate sale of chlorodyne, and also by their own ])ersonal knowledge of the consequent dangers, to make a suggestion which if given effectio, would control to a certain exfc*t the sale of “this dangerous and highly poisonous preparation.” The deputation made the point that the present Poisons Act in no way restricted the sale of chlorodyne, since anyone by a simple application could i obtain a license which would allow him to sell olilorodyno to all and sundry. Inasmuch as chlorodyne in classed in section 2 of the Act, this the deputation regarded ns inimical! to the true public interest and it requested Dr. Mason to use his influence with,the Minister for Public Health to induce him to make further regulations restricting the sale of chlorodyne and other preparations’ containing excessive doses of morphia, .and other narcotics.
