[Pbess Association.] AY ELLINGTON, July 15. Tile annual conference of Acclimatisation Societies opened to-dav. The Chairman (Mr. Tripp), in the course of Ins opening remarks, suggested that the whole of Ivipiti Island should be acquired for a bird sanet'lary. He considered more scenic reserves should be set asido as bird sanctuaries, and emphas'sed the unsportsmanlike conduct of those who slaughtered ducks wholesale. It was the duty of the Societies not onlv to find birds to shoot, lmt to preserve birds for those who should come after. The iollowing officers were elected : President, L. Tripp; vice-president, C. A. Fitzroy; treasurer, L. G. Jtoid: secretary. N. A r on Stunner; Council, E. AV. Peyton and F. Earle (Auckland), J. A. Jones (Stratford), W. Symes (Taranaki) 11. N. Liffiton (AYangauiu), A. F. Lowe (AVellington), \A T . Pollard (Alarlborough), Dr Aloorhouse (Canterbury), «... Chisbolm and 11. Forrest (Otago), John Rutherford (South Canterbury), .and H. Feld wick (Southland). A motion that the Government should be asked for financial assistance in view of the loss that would be suffered by Societies if dose seasons were enforced every three years, was lost.
