Mr. .McGowan moved that- the conduct of the Government in their relations to the Commonwealth had brought ridicule upon tin- State; that such action, and also'their action in .braking unwarranted and unnecessary v '*~ (appointments to the Legieintivo Council; merited the condemnation ot the House. , . . Mr. Wade, iu a light urn speech, in reply, claimed that the Government had only done its duty an resisting Commonwealth encroachment on Stabo rights. It intended acting in conjunction with the other States i !•< tho issue of a writ against tho bederal Government for 'withholding riom the States three-fourths.of the l'cveliuo for June. Ho claimed that tup Council appointments were accessary to make the Chamber reasonably effective. Tho debate was adjourned. HOBART, July 22. , In the Assembly a want of confidence motion that the Government •were not sincere in pushing-measures through tho Council was negatived by 11 vote*.
